Governor Soludo in UBSS uniform
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Wednesday stepped out in style adorning the school uniform of his alma mater, Uga Boys Secondary School (UBSS) in Aguata Local Government Area of the state to celebrate its golden jubilee.
The moment stirred nostalgia and surprise as the Governor relieved fond memories of his formative years as he joined students, staff, alumni and guests to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.
The appearance of Soludo in school uniform drew cheers and admiration from all present, as it evidenced his personal connection to UBSS.
In his speech, the Governor who looked visibly elated harped on the importance of investing in education.
Hr said: "Education in my administration, is not only a policy priority but a personal mission shaped by my own background and experiences within the public school system."
According to him, transformation of UBSS into a smart school forms part of the wider Anambra State education revolution, which includes the deployment of digital learning tools, improved infrastructure, teacher upgrading and the repositioning of public schools to compete globally.
It was gathered that the governor’s return to his alma mater in uniform with his old school mates was to symbolise a bridge between the past, present and future of learning in the state.
The celebration, which was described as a proud moment for the alumni of the school as well the community, provided an opportunity for old students to reconnect, reflect on the school’s journey over the last 50 years, and recommit themselves to supporting its continued growth and development.
Notably, the Governor's alma mater has for over five decades produced notable professionals and it presently stands as one of the public secondary schools being transformed into a smart school under the state government's education reform agenda.
