The Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL) yesterday boycotted ceremonies marking Nigeria’s 56 years of independence, the group said.
“We have no reason to join Nigerians in celebrating independence. It’s a black day for Biafrans. I wish they stop reminding us of Lugard mistakes by celebrating1stOctoberof every year,” BNYL National President, Prince Chimezie Obuka, said in a statement.
“The Youth League is calling on all Biafrans not to anymore participate in Nigeria Independence Day celebration. We equally want to remind our people that our colleagues in Southern Cameroon left Nigeria1stOctober. As they markIndependence Anniversary in solidarity, we shall then believe that sooner than later, our occupied regions including Southern Cameroon will be liberated,” Obuka added.
The Biafra Nations Youth League said in a statement that it entered into a working agreement with Southern Cameroon on February 20, 2016 when delegates of Southern Cameroon Governing Council met with BNYL leadership in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. It declared that the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra is a reality and expressed confidence that it would son e achieved.
