Three suspects were yesterday nabbed by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra while stealing electricity cables at Agu-Awka area of the state.
The three suspects, who are in their early twenties, are Nnamdi Nweke, an apprentice welder, Chibuzor Muoto, an orange hawker, and Ikechukwu Okafor, a groundnut hawker. They are said to be indigenes of Awka, the state capital.
Addressing journalists after parading the suspects at the corps headquarters in Awka, the State Commandant Mr. Godwin Omoregie, said that the three suspects were caught in the act by some officials of the corps while they were on their regular patrol duty.
He said: “While the officers were on patrol at the Agu-Awka area of the state, they heard some suspicious noise and decided to go and found out what was amiss. On getting there, they saw the suspects cutting cables with saws.”
According to Omorogie, the suspects dropped their tools and took to their heels on sighting the security officers but one of them was caught and he subsequently assisted the officers in arresting the other suspects while one remain at large.
He said that efforts are in top gear to arrest the remaining suspect whose name was not disclosed.
Item recovered from the suspects are two saws.
