Registrants queue up at a voter registration centre to enroll for their PVC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded over 1.3 million pre-registrations for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) nationwide within just one week of reopening its digital portal.
According to the figures released by the Commission, Osun State leads the country with 393,269 pre-registrations, followed by Lagos State with 222,205, and Ogun State with 132,823. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also posted a significant turnout with 107,682 registrants.
Other high-ranking states include Oyo (66,951), Kaduna (61,592), and Kogi (58,546), reflecting heightened interest ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
At the other end of the spectrum, some states recorded lower engagement. Ebonyi (261), Imo (481), and Enugu (484) had fewer than 500 pre-registrations within the same period, while Ondo (3,426) and Cross River (4,055) also posted modest figures.
INEC said the digital process was designed to simplify voter registration and improve access for Nigerians across all 36 states and the FCT.
An INEC official, who presented the breakdown, noted that the Commission would continue to monitor the exercise to ensure transparency.
“This response within just one week demonstrates Nigerians’ growing enthusiasm to participate in the democratic process. The online platform has made it easier for citizens to begin their registration before completing the process physically,” the official said.
The nationwide total of 1,379,342 pre-registrations underscores renewed interest in voter participation as preparations for future elections gather pace.
