Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE & OBIANUJU ENUJIOKE
Dr. Law Mefor has said that his appointment as the Anambra State Commissioner for Information would herald a new era in the state's Ministry of Information.
He noted that the ministry is undergoing changes to be in tune with modern trends.
Mefor spoke during a day’s training session on social media organised for the ministry’s officers, which took place at the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Radio/TV auditorium, Awka, on August 21, 2025.
He stated that all organisations do undergo renewals to catch up with changing times, adding that the phenomenon is the reason why the ongoing in-house training is good.
“So as every organization and every system of doing things is undergoing changes; so is information technology.
“And that necessitates the ongoing in-house training in our ministry, which is good,” Mefor said.
He corrected the erroneous impression that information officers are public relations officers, clarifying that they are information gatherers.
“Stop seeing yourselves as public relations officers because you are not that.
“What you do is information gathering, which is your primary duty.
“And information officers who are not internet savvy are not qualified to be called information officers,” Mefor said.
More so, resource persons took turns to drill the participants in various aspects of social media with Joseph Egbeocha of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), teaching the participants "Modern Trends in Information Dissemination”.
Earlier, the Managing Director of ABS, Mr Molokwu, spoke on how journalists can narrate their stories effectively, precisely, and succinctly.
While Uchechukwu Ebunam’s lecture focused on how to have good engagement on social media, Esther Sunshine’s teaching dwelt on AI’s related matters and the workings of social media handles.
Over one hundred staff members of the Anambra state ministry of information participated in the training exercise.
