Zaaki Azzay, immediate past 2nd Vice President of PMAN
Hip-hop artist and rapper, Zaaki Azzay, has announced his resignation as the 2nd Vice President of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), citing ‘recent developments’ within the Association as his reason.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday evening, Zaaki Azzay said he takes his integrity and reputation very seriously, hence his decision to quit PMAN leadership role.
The torchlight-bearing musician particularly noted the ‘ongoing incidents’ involving a former PMAN President, Pretty Okafor, and Olusco Heritage Investment Ltd., regarding the Association’s land in Abuja even as he denied involvement in any wrong-doing in relation to PMAN.
It was gathered that the crux of the matter is a 1.5 hectares of land in Abuja—a prized gift from the then former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, to Nigerian musicians during the Tony Okoroji-led administration of PMAN. Some members, however, accused Okafor of selling the land and pocketing the money.
“I, Zaaki Azzay, hereby announce my resignation from my position as the 2nd Vice President of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
“I take my integrity and reputation very seriously, and recent developments within the Association have compelled me to formally distance myself from its affairs.
“My attention has been drawn to the ongoing incidents involving Pretty Okafor and Olusco Heritage Investment Ltd regarding the Association’s land in Abuja. I wish to state categorically that issues of this nature are the very reasons I earlier stepped down from my position in PMAN.
“With respect to the former President of PMAN, Pretty Okafor, I would prefer not to dwell on his character, as the video in circulation already reflects his level of ‘maturity and composure’.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state clearly that I am not involved in any unauthorized activities in relation to PMAN.
“Going forward, I kindly request that my privacy be respected, as I have completely withdrawn and distanced myself from all PMAN-related activities,” Zaaki Azzay stated. (LEADERSHIP)
