The EKEDC Headquarters
Residents within the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) network have been alerted to prepare for daily power interruptions and load shedding beginning Monday, July 28, 2025, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) embarks on a critical maintenance operation.
In a notice issued by EKEDC on Friday, the utility company disclosed that the planned outage, scheduled to run through Thursday, August 21, 2025, would last between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm daily. This disruption, EKEDC explained, is necessary to allow TCN to safely carry out repair works on the Omotosho – Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.
The affected infrastructure is a major high-voltage line crucial for power evacuation and transmission within Lagos and surrounding areas. According to EKEDC, the maintenance is expected to cause intermittent power supply across its network during the period.
“This planned outage by our partner, Transmission Company of Nigeria, will impact supply across our entire coverage area,” the statement read in part. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and appeal to all our valued customers to kindly bear with us.”
While the company did not specify the exact locations to be affected, previous disruptions of this nature have typically impacted parts of Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Lekki, Apapa, Festac, Surulere, and other EKEDC-served districts.
This maintenance work is part of a broader national effort to improve power transmission capacity and reduce system losses, a challenge that continues to plague Nigeria’s electricity sector.
Residents and businesses have been advised to plan, ration power use during peak hours, and seek alternative energy sources where necessary.
The utility company has urged customers to stay updated through its official communication channels for any changes in the schedule or updates on power restoration. (The Guardian)
