Actress Angela Okorie has stirred reactions on social media after revealing that she burned the outfit she wore to the burial of late actor Alex Ekubo.
Recall that Alex Ekubo was laid to rest on June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.
Following the burial ceremony, Okorie took to her Instagram to explain why she decided to destroy the outfit she wore to the event.
According to the actress, her godmother advised her that clothes worn to burial ceremonies should not be kept but burned.
Sharing a photo of the outfit, she wrote: “This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My godmother said it is not good to have cloth you wore to a burial around you. You burn them. So family and friends, take note. I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep us and bless us with long life.”
Her post quickly generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users questioning the need to publicly announce the act, while others defended her right to follow her beliefs.
Reacting, @Dr__Adeyemi tweeted: “Is Alex burial the first she would ever attend in her life? And what happened to the clothes she wore to previous burials? This is clout chasing at its best.”
@Dtrollfarmer wrote: “Now I understand why he chose to keep his health issue private. RIP Alex.”
@missy_ada2 commented: “She kept the bag, shoes, wig and jewelry though. Selective burning.”
Also weighing in, @Generaltombe wrote: “Omo na wah oh. In as much as I don’t believe in this, do you still have to bring this to the public? For what purpose, spiritual cleansing or what?”
@rexenus tweeted: “Everyday, I see more reasons why Alex kept his life away from almost everyone. A whole lot of Nollywood and the entire Naija entertainment industry people are deluded sick fellas.”
Offering a different perspective, @Snowccats wrote: “Don’t judge her cus someday someone will burn clothes they wear to her funeral too.”
@Aloke1164378 tweeted: “Eye service… just for likes and comment. Those clothes can still burn without the camera watching.”
Similarly, @chiefnarx wrote: “It’s really sad how they’re using this man’s death for clout.”
@Kall_Him_Timmy added: “They’ll do anything for the Glam & Blits, just anything for the clicks. This type of stuff doesn’t belong online. Fake people everywhere.”
Defending the actress, @smithclips419 argued: “Yes she is meant to burn it and forget all the memory because in the ancient era they use those cloth to send death to the family of people who have died.”
Meanwhile, @DwayneFranky wrote: “If she burns it without anyone finding out then that’s understandable, but burning it and coming online to announce it shows she is doing it for clout.”
Sharing a more neutral view, @e34152 commented: “Everyone with their belief. We all will die one day. Even after practising these beliefs, death can still come early. Just try your best to live a life of impact.”
The actress has yet to respond to the criticism and debate generated by her post. (TRIBUNE)
