
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State, yesterday said that the command has in an effort to fight against illicit drug in the country has in the past six months arrested 156 people suspected to be hard drug traffickers, including 10 females.
Speaking at an occasion to mark this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the state commander of NDLEA, Mr. Sule Momodu, said that three vehicles allegedly used in conveying hard drugs from Anambra to Delta State were also impounded within the period.
He stressed that the fight against trafficking of illicit drugs was total. According to him, 922.5 kilograms of cannabis have been impounded this year and appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to assist the agency in building a rehabilitation centre already approved for the state.
He said that the state command of the NDLEA would soon embark on visits to principals, head teachers and the State House of Assembly, among other stakeholders as part of sensitisation programme to curb the menace. Momodu used the occasion to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for a drug free society.
