An Umuahia-based security expert has described the introduction of dog breeding Centre by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja as a necessary step to enhancing security operations in the country.
Chief Executive Officer of Trustlink Guards and Dogs Institute, Dr. Chukwunazom Cyra Obi, who expressed this view during a chat with newsmen in Umuahia at the weekend, noted that a well-bred dog is a big asset for security operations. “Well-bred dogs are a dependable source of security,” he said.
Obi commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, for establishing the Police Dog Breeding Centre in Abuja.
Arase, while inaugurating the centre, had expressed the hope that through the centre in the near future, the police would provide support for other security agents that require operational dogs while at the same time, breed friendly puppies for sale to the civilian population.
“We are very happy with Arase for revitalising the dog division. Over the years we used to hear of police dogs, but suddenly it disappeared. However, Arase came on board and started the Police Dog Breeding Centre. He should be commended for that vision,” said Obi who is also building a dog breeding an international dog breeding institute in Umuahia.
“If you have trained dogs, it can help you in your work and exercise. It can also help you in security operations. If you breed it very well, you can produce puppies and sell. Dogs are just wonderful and anybody in the business should be commended and supported,” he added.
The security expert hinted that his dog institute was almost ready for operations.
“We are almost completing our dog breeding institute which is of international standard and has such facilities as a veterinary clinic, ultra-modern laboratory, dog grocery shop,” he said, adding qualified veterinary doctors would be recruited to attend to the health needs of the breeds when the project comes on stream. He expressed his willingness in partnering with the police in breeding and training of security dogs.
Obi said he is collaborating with an American firm, Tex American Investigative and Security Services Incorporated USA, in building his institute.
