The Mayor of Atlanta in the United States of America, Andre Dickens, on Tuesday proclaimed November 18 as Davido Day in recognition of the Nigerian-American multiple award-winning singers contribution to the citys entertainment development.
Born David Adeleke, the singer whose uncle is the governor of Osun State marked his birthday on November 21. In a birthday message to the pop star, the mayor praised the singer for captivating global audiences, attaining icon status in the music industry. He commended his multifaceted roles as a singer, songwriter, producer, business figure, philanthropist, and community advocate.
The mayors message read, On behalf of the City of Atlanta, thank you for your tireless efforts as a renowned singer, songwriter, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and community advocate. Throughout your remarkable career, youve amassed an incredible number of accolades and continue to use your platform to give back to communities in the United States and throughout Africa.
Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He made his music debut as a member of the group KB International. He studied business administration at Oakwood University before dropping out to make beats and record vocal references.
He rose to fame after releasing Dami Duro, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo which was released in 2012, from which six additional singles-Back When, Ekuro, Overseas, All of You, Gbon Gbon and Feel Alright-were taken.
