The North East zonal office of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has started distributing special need food and non-food items to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps across Maiduguri metropolis.
“The items are meant to cater for IDPs with special needs like diabetes patients, babies and nursing mothers,” NEMA North-East Zone Information Officer, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said.
“The food items distributed to the camps include Cerelac formula for babies, milk, biscuits, custard, Milo, wheat, Hungary rice, soya plus, kunun tsamiya, etc, while the non food items distributed include slippers, blankets, plates, spoons, Vaseline, soap, detergents and dignity kits for lactating mothers,” Ibrahim said in a statement.
He added that the distribution is without prejudice to the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the agency and Borno State Government where NEMA supplies all food items to be prepared in camps while the State Government provides condiments and other necessities for cooking the food.”
