Pan-African investor, Alhaji Aliko Dangote of Nigeria, was today named by British charity Oxfam as one of the 62 richest people who are worth more than the combined wealth of half the world’s population. Dangote and the other 61 money bags have more money than 3.6bn of the poorest on the planet, the report said.
The super-rich got richer by half a trillion dollars last year. But since 2010 the poorest half of the world got poorer by $1 trillion (£700 billion), a drop of 41%. And an estimated £7.6 trillion is stored in offshore accounts to avoid taxes, Oxfam said in the report.
Dangote, 58, is worth $14.3billion, his money coming via massive investments in cement, sugar and flour.
Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, stock trading guru Warren Buffett and Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg are among the top bracket in the list of 62 featured in the report.
