The United States Embassy in Nigeria, has promised to strengthen the diplomatic relationship between the US and Nigeria and will also increase foreign investment in the country.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Rep Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, (PDP Edo), in Abuja, the US officials said they will help the country in her effort to economic recovery through the diversification of the economy, including investment in the transportation sector.
The US Embassy officials in Nigeria led by the embassy’s Economic Officer and sister of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kelly Moon and the Political Officer of the Embassy, Martin Hardinger also said that they will collaborate with the government of Nigeria on the diversification of the nation’s economy.
Welcoming the guests, Rep Agbonayinma commended the American government for her support to the country in the areas of health and security, adding that the US government believed in selfless leadership.
The lawmaker said his main task was to pursue legislations that would promote “a Nigeria of our dream”, adding that his goals and vision was to ensure a better country.
He appealed to the United States Agency for International Developments, USAIDS and other US agencies to collaborate with a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, in his constituency for the benefits of his people.
Agbonayinma solicited the assistance of the US Department of Education on federal students aid, grants and scholarships loans, work study jobs and students financial assistant.
He also appealed to the US Department of Health-Care System to assist in establishment and supply of equipment to the two local government areas that make up his constituency so as to address the health needs of the people.
He further called on the US Department of Security to assist in the provision of training facilities and security consciousness of his constituents especially in the alert system and publications to his constituency office.
Other areas he appealed for help in his constituency include in agriculture, capacity building and support for Civil Society Organisation for better legislation and policy formulation that would benefit the youth in politics.
The US embassy officials however, entered into a closed-door meeting with the lawmaker after the opening remarks. (Peoples Daily)
