Borno IDPs want camp in neighbouring Yobe village

Internally Displaced Persons from Borno taking refuge in neighbouring Kukareta village in Yobe, have appealed to Borno Government to establish a camp for them at the village.

Alhaji Usman Wakil, a community leader and spokesman of the IDPs made the appeal on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Usman said the refugees numbering over 1,000, were displaced from seven communities some months ago.

He said Yobe government had provided them with food items but was inadequate, hence the need for Borno government to come to their rescue.

Alhaji Garba Bilal, Rescue Officer of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said the agency had distributed a substantial quantity of assorted food items to the refugees in Kukareta.

The Rescue officer said Yobe government established two camps at Pompomari, with a population of 3,011 IDPs and Bukar Ali Elkanemi, with a population of 391 IDPs.

He said that there were complete camp structures, with a Camp Commandant, as well as security agents handling the welfare needs and safety of the IDPs.

According to him, international agencies like Unicef, ICRC, UNHCR, ACF and NRCS have also provided support to the IDPs in camp.

“Let me say with all sense of responsibility that the state government has provided all the basic needs required to make the IDPs comfortable in the camp.” (NAN)
