AA National Chairman, Kenneth Udeze
Action Alliance (AA) has threatened legal action against Atiku-Amaechi Movement over unauthorised adoption and use of its abbreviation.
The party’s National Chairman, Barrister Kenneth Udeze, in a statement made available to Sunday Independent condemned the adoption of his party’s abbreviation, which it stressed is part of its identity.
The party said in the statement: “The National Leadership of the Action Alliance (AA) under the leadership of Chief Kenneth Udeze has noted with dismay the circulation of membership cards and materials by a group parading itself as ‘AA Movement’ – Atiku-Amaechi Movement, with the abbreviation ‘AA’.
“For the avoidance of doubt: The abbreviation ‘AA’ is the exclusive, INEC-registered and constitutionally recognized acronym of the Action Alliance.
“It is not available for adoption by any political movement, pressure group or association.
“The use of ‘AA’ and ‘AA Movement’ by this Atiku-Amaechi group is misleading, deceptive, and calculated to cause confusion among the electorate and unlawfully appropriate the goodwill and identity of our great party.
“The Action Alliance has no affiliation whatsoever with the so-called Atiku-Amaechi Movement, its promoters, or its membership cards.
“We hereby condemn in its entirety this impersonation and identity theft; demand that the promoters of the said ‘AA Movement’ immediately cease and desist from using ‘AA’ as abbreviation.
“We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and the general public to take note of this fraudulent confusion and disregard the materials being circulated.
“The Action Alliance remains a distinct, independent political party under the leadership of Chief Kenneth Udeze as National Chairman. We will take all necessary legal steps to protect our name, logo and abbreviation.” (Daily Independent)
