Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, yesterday submitted his list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly.
The list was submitted to House Speaker, Rt Hon. Martins Azubuike, by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Chijioke Nwakodo, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, according to a terse statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Godwin Adindu.
News Express recalls that shortly on assumption of office on May 29 this year, Ikpeazu dissolved the State Executive Council (EXCO) which he inherited from his predecessor, Chief Theodore Orji, with an assurance that some of the commissioners would be re-appointed. Shortly thereafter, Chief Umeh Kalu was reappointed Attorney-General and Commmissioner for Justice and has remained the only commissioner appointed so far.
Appearing on a live radio programme on Magic FM in Aba, on September 15, Ikpeazu set a target of three weeks to name his commissioners as he explained that the architecture of the envisaged new EXCO was already in place.
“The architecture for the state EXCO is ready and soon I will make public, the names of new commissioners,” he had said during the programme.
On October 1, during an interactive session with journalists who sought to know when his EXCO would be in place, Ikpeazu promised that Abians would not wait for too long for the new cabinet members.
“We are ready,” he had said. “We have the architecture of our cabinet which is what the main challenge is: what emphasis are we laying, what kind of people do we want. If you have the architecture in your subconscious, it is easy to pick the individual and I assure you that the arcitecture is ready and those that will populate it can be found. If you are waiting, you won't wait for too long before that happens.”
It is expected that the list of the Commissioners would be unveiled by the Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly latest by next week Monday, October 19.
