Mr. Simon Asite, President, Delta Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (DACCIMA), on Wednesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to improve electricity generation to boost the country’s economy.

Asite made the appeal while fielding questions on Nigeria’s achievements on its 55th independence anniversary from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Warri.

According to him, it is disgusting that at 55, Nigeria is still grappling with the challenges of inadequate power supply.

“Power is critical to the growth of any economy in the world so I expect President Buhari to tackle this challenge headlong so as to encourage the growth of cottage businesses.

“Again government is the largest player in the economy, so I want the President to inject fund into the economy while tackling corruption simultaneously.”

The DACCIMA president also urged Buhari to be prudent in the war against corruption.

“The president’s decision to tackle corruption is encouraging; however, he should not withhold money in circulation in the name of fighting corruption, both should go side by side.”

Besides, Asite urged the government to allow the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to operate without interference.

He also advised the president to improve on the existing refineries and build new ones to guarantee fuel sufficiency.

“We have tried as a nation at 55 but we ought to have gone farther in view of the abundant resources we are endowed with.” (NAN)
