Leader of the Progressive Peoples’ Alliance (PPA) in Anambra State Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, has donated a 150 high-capacity engine boat worth one million Naira to the riverine parish of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Mbamili Diocese in Anambra West Local Government Area of the state to help ease the transportation problems experienced in that area.
The boat apart from serving as means of transport for the people of Igbokenyi will also be used for other missionary purposes.
Igbokenyi is an Igala-speaking community surrounded by the River Niger which stretches beyond the horizon of the river in several directions.
The inhabitants who live on the island use water as their main source of transportation as the only road access to their community is usually impassable during rainy season.
Speaking on behalf of the PPA leader, the state chairman of the party, Hon. Marthias Ameke and Dr. Ralph Chikwenze who represented the State PPA leader said the party’s governorship candidate in Anambra State has demonstrated a great sense of humility in the service of humanity.
He said that it was a man’s action that always endears him in the hearts of the masses adding that government and other agencies should emulate Ezeemo’s gestures to the needy.
Receiving the boat, the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Mbamili, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Henry Okeke, who was accompanied on the journey with his wife, Julie, and other Anglican priests said that the boat was a fulfillment of the promise earlier made by the philanthropist per excellence to alleviate the sufferings encountered by the church in Igboenyi and the entire community.
Bishop Okeke noted that the Ezeemo has become a willing instrument used by God to bring succour not only to the church but to humanity and called on God to continue to shower His blessings and protection on Ezeemo family.
In his speech, the parish priest of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Igbokenyi, Rev. Victor Ogbalu who expressed joy over the donation of the new boat said that the joy of the church and the entire community know no bounds saying that Ezeemo has truly lived-up to his promise as a true philanthropist that God has chosen to wipe away tears from the suffering people of Igbokenyi.
He observed that the philanthropist had earlier in March, 2015 made a donation of N1 million for the boat project.
Ogbalu further described the boat donor as a great gift to the church and humanity in general.
