The Political Consultative Forum of Muslim Student Society of Nigeria in Niger State, on Wednesday called for strengthening and implementation of Sharia laws and institutions in the State.
Chairman of the group, Malam Isah Adamu, made the call during a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Alhaji Marafa Ahmed in Minna.
Adamu said sharia implementation in the state was truncated by the immediate past administration.
“Sixteen years ago, the Government of Niger State started the process of sharia implementation. But eight years ago, it was truncated by the action of the last administration.
“Today, people offend God with impunity on our streets, and as faith based activist, we see this as an affront to the law of Allah.”
Adamu said the best way to appreciate the people for bringing the new government to power was to strengthen the sharia institutions in the state.
The group also appealed to the state government to accord priority to education, adding that the dilapidated schools in the state was worrisome.
The Speaker, represented by Deputy Speaker Husseini Ibrahim, said the legislature would welcome ideas from the public on how to empower the sharia institutions.
On education, he said all hands were already on deck to improve the standard of education in the state. (NAN)
