Cocaine: NDLEA invites Arik Air crew over arrest of steward

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday said it had invited the entire crew on Arik Air flight W3101 that left the country for London Heathrow Airport for questioning.

This is contained in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the agency, Mr. Mitchel Ofoyeju.

The statement said that the entire crew members including some support staff that worked on the flight before it departed Lagos were currently before narcotic investigators at the Ikoyi Headquarters of the NDLEA.

“They include two pilots and members of the cabin crew comprising an Australian and a South African.

“The invitation which was made by the Agency was swiftly complied with by the management of Arik Air.

“The crew members were conveyed to the NDLEA office in an official bus belonging to Arik Air.”

The statement explained that the action was part of ongoing investigations into their level of involvement in the smuggling of 20 kg of cocaine found with one Chika Udensi in London.

“The latest Range Rover car belonging to the prime suspect parked on the airline’s premises had also been moved to the NDLEA office as exhibit.”

The statement said that the NDLEA Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade had promised to carry out elaborate investigation in the case.

It assured the public that all culprits would be identified and prosecuted.

It added that the agency had made remarkable progress in counter-narcotic efforts and would resist any act capable of reversing the gains.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Udensi, a steward with the Arik airline was apprehended in UK in possession of 20kg of cocaine. (NAN)
