Abia: Ikpeazu reinstates non-indigene workers sacked by TA Orji

In fulfillment of his campaign promises, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has recalled non indigene staff of the state that were hitherto disengaged from the services of the state on the basis of their state of origin.

The workers, mainly from other Igbo-speaking states, were unceremoniously sacked by Ikpeazu’s immediate predecessor, Chief TA Orji, now a Senator.

During the electioneering campaign, the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the gubernatorial flag-bearer promised to recall non-indigene that were disengaged from service by the previous administrations of the state.

“To prove that the promise was not an electoral gimmick, Governor Ikpeazu has reinstated all the non-indigenes at the state Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB), totaling 102 staff and they have all been paid their June salary,” Godwin Adindu, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said this evening.

Adindu added in a statement issued in Umuahia, the state capital: “In the same vein, out of the 295 non-indigene staff formally in the employment of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), 63 have been cleared for reinstatement and are set to receive their July salary while the rest will also be reinstated immediately after being cleared by the auditor-general of the local government.

“These measures are in line with the governor’s policy of making Abia a home for all and a comfortable state where the hopes and aspiration of all law abiding residents will be guaranteed.”
