NLC holds two-day retreat over leadership crisis

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday said that it would on Tuesday commence a two-day National Leadership Retreat in Calabar to chart a road map to address the challenges facing the congress.

This is contained in press statement signed by the NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba.

Wabba said the retreat, which will hold from Aug. 25 to Aug. 27, has its theme ‘Returning to our Founding Principles: The NLC and the Challenges facing it.’

He said that the retreat would review the state of the labour movement and position it to meet present and future challenges.

Wabba said that the National Leadership Retreat would also review the internal democratic practices and management within trade unions and how to strengthen them.

He said the retreat would identify factors engendering inter and intra union disputes and how to redress them and also review the challenges of organising and recruiting new members.

Wabba said that the retreat would review the programme: ‘Returning to our Founding Principles,’ the motions and resolutions of the 11th delegates conference and outline a road map for their implementation.

The president said that the retreat would undertake an appraisal of the 2014 New Pension Reform Act and the contributory pension scheme to identify ways of strengthening their implementation. (NAN)
