Abia Govt. serves squatters quit notice

Abia State Government has given illegal occupants of government property, particularly Enyimba Hotel Complex in Aba, and others across the state one week to quit or risk forceful ejection.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Godwin Adindu, who issued the quit notice to the squatters through a statement in Umuahia on Monday, urged those affected to urgently relocate to allow government commence its planned massive rehabilitation of all government property abandoned for a long time.

A visit to the seven-storey Enyimba Hotel Complex located near Aba waterside revealed how squatters have taken over the building.

Part of the statement endorsed by Adindu reads: “As part of the Abia State Government policy on Aba Urban Renewal, the state government will be embarking on a massive rehabilitation of government buildings and all abandoned projects and infrastructure in the Aba metropolis.

“One of such buildings is the long-abandoned, seven-storey edifice of the Eyimba Hotel complex near the Aba waterside.

“Government is aware that over the years, all manners of miscreants and illegal squatters have turned the place to their abode.

“Government is therefore serving notice to all the illegal occupants in the building to vacate the place within one week of this notice, as the relevant government agencies are ready to commence a massive rehabilitation work on the building.”

Mr Adindu said government was also using the opportunity to direct all illegal squatters in all government buildings or premises in the state to quickly vacate the places before the commencement on structures.
