The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been in a meeting with State Governors in the Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa.
Some of the governors present include those of Nasarawa, Imo, Gombe, Benue, Delta, Niger, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kogi, Borno, Jigawa, Rivers, Ogun, Kebbi, Kwara, Taraba, Ekiti, Ondo, Kaduna, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Anambra, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Lagos, Adamawa, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Yobe, Plateau (Deputy), Bayelsa (Deputy).
Details of the meeting are not yet known but feelers indicate that it is about the bailout programme for states that are said to be unable to pay salaries.
Earlier on, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum had called for a bailout for states which have been unable to pay workers’ salaries.
Briefing journalists, the Chairman of the Governors Forum, Mr Rochas Okorocha, said that the Governors were concerned about the dwindling revenue of the states which had affected the lives of the people negatively.
According to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), 18 states are owing workers’ salaries spanning for as much as 10 months. Most of the states’ governors are members of the APC.
