NUJ President appointed commissioner in Kano State

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Comrade Mohammed Garba was yesterday afternoon inaugurated as the new Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture of Kano State.

Garba was inaugurated alongside other commissioners by the state Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

NUJ National Secretariat broke the news through a statement endorsed by the National Secretary, Shuaibu Usman Leman, (Wallin Shadalafia).

The statement made available to News Express via e-mail, read in part: “The National Secretariat of the Union announces the appointment and inauguration of its National President, Mohammed Garba, as Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs, Youths, Sports and Culture in Kano State.

“The union commends the governor of Kano state for finding Mohammed Garba worthy of this appointment and urges Comrade Garba to .maintain those good qualities that earned him the appointment.”

Leman said the NUJ National Secretariat has commenced compilation of comprehensive handing over notes for the six years tenure of Garba’s presidency ahead of the 5th Triennial Delegates Conference of the union slated for July 23 - 25, 2015 when Garba will quit office as the union's helmsman.

Garba has served for two terms of six years, having been first elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2012.

Between 2011-2014, he was elected President of the West African Journalists Association (WAJA) and currently, he is the President of Federation of African Journalists ( FAJ).
