Peter Obi calls for Igbo unity •Dismisses APC link •Defends President Jonathan

Immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, this morning made a passionate appeal for unity among Ndigbo.

“What is important is how we can unite and build Igbo land,” he said while interacting with journalists in Lagos. “We are still quarrelling and it is not good. Let us come together as a family.”

Obi, who is the incumbent Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), dismissed the impression that Igbos lost out by voting massively for President Goodluck Jonathan during the March 28 presidential election won by Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“What did we lose?” he asked, adding: “We didn’t lose anything. We gave support to the South-South and I am happy we did. May be it will make Igbos to come together.”

Asked if it is true that he intends to join APC, the former governor said: “The answer is capital NO. I will not join APC. People say so because I attended (Edo Governor Adams) Oshiomhole’s wedding but Oshiomhole is a personal friend.”

Obi described PDP’s future as being rosy. “We will rebuild PDP,” he said. “We will compete favourably with APC in the next four years; we will match them. We will form a good opposition.”

The former governor described President Jonathan as a good man who willingly took a personal decision to concede defeat to Buhari in the interest of the country, dismissing claims in some quarters that he acted under duress from some world leaders.
