Uduaghan’s firm stance has stabilised Delta —Commissioner

Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Frank Omare, has said that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s firm stance has stabilised Delta State just as he said the governor’s interest in the state above personal gains has made people see him as being unfair to them.

Chief Omare said if Uduaghan had wavered in his stance, then he is not worthy to be governor of Delta state, as governance entails taking proactive and hard decisions which are in the best interest of the state against the wishes of the minority who care less but for personal aggrandizement.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Omare explained that over the years the Governor has had to take decisions in the interest of the growth and development of the state, even though it means stepping on the toes of some Deltans who seem to be power brokers in the state.

“In the past four years, we have demolished a lot of illegal structures, as well as structures sited on drainages and natural waterways. When we do these things, it is in the greater interest of Deltans, but the owner of the structures we demolished will not consider the governor as being fair to him or her. Sometimes, they curse us and rain all sorts of abuse on us during the exercise, because they think it is unfair, but it is all the development effort of the Governor,” he said.

He added that if the Governor had placed the interest of individuals and personal interest above the need of Deltans, most of the achievements of the administration would never have seen the light of day, saying “even in the process of demolishing structures obstructing the natural waterways, one of the Governor’s fence in Warri was affected, and even one of mine was brought down. The governor insisted that we go ahead with it, to show to all Deltans that nobody’s personal interest supersedes the dream of a better Delta.”

He reeled out the achievements of the governor to include the maternal and child health programme which has reduced infant and maternal mortality in the state, free education up to senior secondary level as well as sponsoring the WAEC and NECO exams for students in the state, as well as various infrastructures spread across the state, adding, however, that the Uduaghan legacy to the next administration was peace and security in the state.

“Governor Uduaghan has stabilised peace and security in Delta State. It’s something that people do not acknowledge. When trouble erupts, that is when people begin to respect the peace and security they have been enjoying. Going by what Uduaghan has done, the next government has a conducive atmosphere to focus on governance, because you cannot govern a chaotic society.”

He expressed his gratitude to the Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the state, stressing that he had no regrets having been part of the Uduaghan’s administration.

“I have no regrets, and if I have the same opportunity, I will do all what I have done, demolitions and all, and I will do it even better,” he stated.
