Unlike what obtained in the past, it is a full house of Nigeria’s past, present and incoming Heads of State as the National Council of State (NCS) meeting gets underway in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Jonathan’s estranged political godfather, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is in attendance this time around. President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, who often shunned the meeting, was one of the first callers after the arrival of Ibrahim Babangida.
Another noticeable figure, who had been habitually absent from the council’s meeting in the past, but is present, is the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
President Goodluck Jonathan is presiding over the meeting, which will be the last for his administration.
The meeting, which is holding in the council chambers of the Presidential Villa, is expected to review the March 28 and April 11 general elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and won – for the first time in the country’s 16 years of democratic practice – by an opposition political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which takes over the Aso Presidential Villa from the defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on May 29.
