A self-acclaimed godfather of Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chris Uba, yesterday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to declare any candidate of the party winner of last Saturday's National Assembly election.
According to him, the reason is capped in the still pending cases in the Supreme and Federal High courts which involved all the PDP candidates in Anambra.
Uba stressed that INEC would err in law if any of the PDP candidates was declared winner without the determination of the pending cases.
It would be recalled that Uba’s faction of PDP had earlier gone to the Supreme Courts, praying for an injunction, restraining INEC from issuing any certificate of return to any candidate of PDP for the 2015 national assembly election in Anambra State, pending the determination of the suit fixed for hearing on the June 9, 2015.
He said: “An order of this honourable court directing the 2nd respondent to stay all actions concerning and relating to the return of any candidate as the duly elected candidate of the 1st respondent for the 2015 National Assembly election in Anambra State pending the determination of the appellants/applicants appeal before this honourable court.”
He also noted that the removal of names of PDP candidates on the ballot paper by INEC was illegal saying that nobody should be issued certificate of return in Anambra PDP.
“For now, PDP has no candidate in the election. People voted for the party and not candidates,” Uba stated.
