Nigerian Government on Tuesday granted a waiver on import duty for medical supplies coming into the country as it battles coronavirus.
Presidential aide Tolu Ogunlesi in a tweet said President Muhammadu Buhari approved that import duty is waived for medical equipment and supplies to strengthen health infrastructure in response to the #COVID19 pandemic.
Ogunlesi disclosed that Buhari also directed Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to implement clearing of all imported healthcare equipment and medical and pharmaceutical supplies.
The president’s directive comes a day after business activities had returned in Lagos State and the country’s capital city, Abuja, after one month lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Currently, Nigeria has 2802 coronavirus cases according to the latest data by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). (The Guardian)
