The suspect and the exhibit
A 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing his neighbour, Haggai Markus, 21, during a misunderstanding over roasted meat in Mararaban Vimtim, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
The statement reads, “On 4th November, 2026 at about 2000hrs, the deceased reportedly had a misunderstanding with the suspect over roasted meat taken from a butcher’s table at Mararaban Vimtim.
“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest.
“The incident was reported to the Police at about 2045hrs on the same date by the father of the deceased, one Markus Gabo.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Mubi North Division promptly visited the scene and found the lifeless body of the victim in a pool of blood.”
Nguroje said one sharp knife was recovered as exhibit, and the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
The police spokesman further disclosed that photographs of the scene were taken and the corpse was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed the victim dead.
“The suspect and the case diary will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution,” the statement further reads.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, condoled with the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be served.
He further urged members of the public to always resolve disputes peacefully and report disagreements to the police rather than resorting to violence. (The Sun, but headline rejigged)
