Shoppers at the Mile 12 International mobile market before its suspension
Hoodlums have disrupted mobile sales arrangement introduced by the management of Mile 12 International Market, Lagos, under which it sold directly to the public at designated points and times across the local government areas of the state.
The arrangement, designed to enable Lagosians buy food items with ease and thus mitigate the effects of the two-week curfew (March 29 – April 3) imposed on Lagos, Ogun and Abuja by the Federal Government in a bid to check the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), started with Kosofe Local Government Area on April 1.
It was, however, abruptly suspended two days later after hoodlums attempted to loot commodities on sale at Surulere.
A suspension announcing the suspension said: “The management of Mile 12 International Market is constrained to inform Lagosians and the general public that there is alteration in our mobile market itinerary.
“This is due to misconception by some section of the public which resulted in attempts by hoodlums to loot our commodities in Surulere Local Government area today.
“Consequently, we shall notify our esteemed online customers of the changes in the itinerary.
“We regret the inconveniences this change would cause our customers.”
A follow-up statement made available to News Express earlier today, Saturday, April 4, indicated that the Mile 12 International Market leadership has decided to restrategise and adopt online marketing. The statement signed by the Director, Media and IT, Muhammad Bubayaro Gifted, indicated that they are also available to move their mobile market to any estate and sell to the residents at competitive rates if invited to do so. The statement said:
“Please do send us the following information:
“List of Products you want 2 buy with Quantity
“Delivery Address
“Our team will let you know when we are delivering your order.
“P.S If you live in any estate, get us permission from the estate association to send our Mobile Team there with lots of fresh fruits & Veggies.”
