Residents of Gloryland and Graceland Communities in Isheri-Olofin area of Egbe Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos have implored Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently intervene in a brewing crisis in the area.

The two communities want the state governor to prevail on the traditional ruler in the area, Oba Wahab Balogun to caution his son, Idris Balogun, popularly referred to as Oluomo in the area, whom the residents alleged had been hindering contractors from executing a federal government project in the area.

Barrister Okwy Ejeise, chairman of Gloryland Community Development Association, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday, on behalf of the two communities, explained they are both under the federal government site and services scheme.

Ejeise disclosed that in the last 25 years, the communities have not benefitted any developmental project from both the federal and the state governments, despite casting their ballots during elections.

He pointed out that the federal government, recently embarked on the dualisation of Community road to link Baruwa road extension, which was meant to ease the incessant traffic gridlock along Egbe Idimu Road.

Ejeise, however, expressed regret that the first time the communities will witness development in the area, the monarch’s son has continued to disturb the contractor from commencing the project.

According to him, “Oluomo has been disturbing the contractors from starting work since four days ago. He is demanding money from them and threatening not to allow them continue the project if they don’t settle him.

“For us here, we believe that no one is above the law. We have enduring his lawless behaviours over the years just because he is the son of the Oba of Isheri-Olofin. We are appealing to Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu to save the area from what could eventually lead to crisis because the communities will resist any form of prevention of development within the area.

“Festac and Gowon Estates have benefitted from this ongoing federal government projects and ours should not be an exception. In the last 25 years, we have not had any developmental project and now that we are about getting one, someone is trying to be a stumbling block, we won’t accept that,” he added. (Daily Independent)
