Governors Abiodun Ogun and Sanwo-Olu Lagos
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed plans to commercialise the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway after a total reconstruction of the road to ease the burden of motorists and commuters.
Abiodun, who noted that the highway was key to the socio-economic development of the state, said a debt of N26billion had hampered the completion of the road by the Federal Government.
The governor spoke during his investiture as the honorary patron of the Abeokuta Club, where 30 new members were also inducted at the weekend.
At the event which had traditional rulers, business tycoons and leaders of thought of Egba extraction in attendance, Abiodun said he and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State were on the verge of creating a joint border development commission to cater to infrastructure, physical planning, taxes, security, and other areas of importance to the two states.
He stated that his administration was committed to a viable infrastructural development by engaging in public-private sector partnership in the construction and rehabilitation of roads.
Apart from the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, he identified Ikorodu-Ogijo-Sagamu and Epe-Ijebu-Ode as two other federal roads which President Muhammadu Buhari had formally granted permission for the state to rehabilitate.
Earlier in his remarks, President of the Club, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi, noted that members were men who had made indelible marks in their chosen careers and contributed to the socio-economic development of both the state and the nation, adding that they would always work for peace and development of Egbaland.
The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, urged the new inductees to be good ambassadors of the club and shun activities that could drag the name of the club in the mud. (New Telegraph)
