Unknown gunmen on Tuesday made a surprise incursion into Zaki-Biam the commercial nerve centre of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and murdered the yam market chairman, Mr. Tavershima Achinge.

The assassins, were reported to have stormed the area on a Bajaj motorcycle and preceded to Achinge’s house and shot him severally on the chest and stomach leaving his intestines outside his body.

Neighbours were said to have fled the area for fear of a repeat of the attack of the unknown gunmen.

New Telegraph learnt that the deceased had retired to his residence from the market when the suspected assassins suddenly appeared and immediately opened fire on him.

A close relation to the victim, who did not want his mentioned, told correspondent that they were at home when it happened and were lucky to escape from the scene as the hoodlums shot sporadically leaving Achinge dead.

Caretaker Chairman of the local government, Mr. Tor-Tyokyaa Ibellogo, confirmed the incident. (New Telegraph)
