The grieving Catholic Diocese of Enugu has fingered unknown herdsmen as being responsible for the murder, on Thursday evening, of Rev. Father Paul Offu, who was until his untimely death was the Parish Priest of St. James the Great Parish, Ugbawka.

The diocese made the allegation while formally announcing Rev. Father Offu’s death on its official Facebook page.

“With a deep sense of sorrow, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu announces the tragic death of Rev. Father Paul Offu who was shot dead this evening (1st August 2019) by some hoodlums suspected to be the notorious and murderous herdsmen, along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu LGA,” the diocese wrote.

Angered by Offu’s murder, reverend fathers in Enugu protested late this afternoon, marching to the Government House in the Independence Layout area of the Enugu State capital.

The sudden termination of the life of the vibrant cleric has evoked widespread anger and condemnation.
