Non-governmental organisation, United Global Resolve For Peace (UGRFP)
has petitioned President Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Justice
over illegal charges Nigerians pay for the running of the Treasury
Single Account (TSA) by the Office of the Accountant General of the
Federation (OAGF).
The group, in a letter dated 3, June, 2019 urged the President to call
for the urgent and immediate review of the TSA charges by ensuring
that no political appointee has the enormous power to arbitrarily
charge or impose tariffs on Nigerians and also urged government to
live up to its responsibility and honor the agreement made with
Systemspecs LTD and fully pay the money owed to the firm.
Speaking with The Guardian yesterday in Abuja, Executive Director,
Shalom Olaseni, said they received complaints from some Nigerians that
the platform on which the TSA is being run, REMITA, is ripping them of
their hard earned money through the bogus service charge that was
imposed on the payers by the OAGF, which the payers were forced to
pay. He added that they have made several applications pursuant to the
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the CBN who directed applications
to the OAGF and asked that we proceed with our follow-up there.
Olaseni said though TSA is an effective tool, designed to curb corrupt
practices, making the payers into the TSA bear the burden of paying a
service charge is however very unsavoury. (The Guardian)
