Ex-Gov El-Rufai
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, political associates and former allies of immediate past Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, have returned to the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and subsequently declared their support for the incumbent Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
Those reportedly aligning with the Uba Sani-led political camp include Bashir Saidu, a former Chief of Staff to the Kaduna State Government under El-Rufai, and Abdu Kwari, a former commissioner in the state and former senator.
Other political big-wigs said to be joining the group are Nasir Abdullahi Maikano, a former chairman of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) in Kaduna State and a three-term member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Ungwan Sanusi Constituency.
Also listed among the returning politicians is Moukhtar Isa Hazo, a former Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, alongside several other grassroots politicians across the state.
Besides, the development is coming against the backdrop of ongoing political realignments in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 elections and could further strengthen Governor Sani’s position within the APC, particularly with the calibre of politicians reportedly returning to the party.
The affected politicians had, at various times, been associated with the political camp of the former governor, making their latest decision to align with the incumbent governor politically significant.
A former commissioner in Kaduna State, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, who confirmed the development, said the politicians had decided to move together with the group. “It’s true, we are going together with them,” he said.
The latest realignment is expected to generate further political discussions in Kaduna, where the 2027 contest is already shaping up around competing interests and alliances within and outside the ruling APC.
The movement also raises questions about the evolving political influence of the various camps in the state as political actors position themselves ahead of the next election cycle. (The Guardian)
