Facts have emerged on the dramatic withdrawal of the suit against the Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Philip Undie, a constituent of Hon. Gbajabiamila, had approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking the disqualification of the House Leader from the speakership race.

Mr. Undie had approached the court through his lawyer, Temi Justice of the Legion of Legal Consult, praying the court to disqualify Gbajabiamila for having been allegedly convicted by the Supreme Court of the state of Georgia in the United States of America for acts of dishonesty.

The suit filed insisted that Hon. Gbajabiamila was in violation of section 66 of the Nigerian Constitution, having been convicted in the United States of America.

While the suit was awaiting assignment on Tuesday afternoon, the plaintiff applied for the withdrawal of the case.

Undie, in his letter of withdrawal, said his claim of the conviction of Gbajabiamila is “found on misinformation and misrepresentation of facts”.

However, information available to News Express revealed that Mr. Undie and his lawyer had been under intense pressure and lobby from the Gbajabiamila camp to drop the case. Money was also said to have changed hands as part of the lobby.

Our reporter could however not verify the veracity of this claim as at the time of filing this report, as Mr. Undie could not be reached on his cell phone.

Gbajabiamila, according to reliable sources, opted for lobby as he was reported to have been “demoralised by fresh evidence accompanying the suit.”

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said: “Some members-elect who hitherto supported Gbajabiamila are now dumping the speakership aspirant owing to the recent shocking revelations about his alleged fraudulent activities behind the scene.”

He wondered why Gbajabiamila resorted to lobby for the withdrawal of the suit rather than seize the moment to clear his name in court.
