Labour and Employmen Minister Ngige
Following fears that unidentified persons are allegedly laying siege at the country home of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, the local vigilante group in the town has beefed up its security formations in the area.
Recall that the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade. Ayuba Wabba, recently declared war on the family of the minister over the face-off between the labour union.
Subsequently, the Anambra State Police command has announced that it would ensure the protection of the lives and property of the relations of the minister for labour and employment Sen Chris Ngige at his home town Alor Idemili South Local government area
Speaking to reporters in Awka Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the Minister’s family members have been asked to make an entry at the nearest police station on the state of insecurity in the area adding that the command would provide adequate security in the community.
He said: “The command will provide security at the minister’s village and ensure that nothing happens there but they have to report to the nearest police station in the community.”
“At the moment the local vigilant group of Alor community has commenced routine security operations in Alor community following rumours that some persons suspected to be labour officials have been laying siege at the minister’s country home.
“We call it rumour but we cannot leave anything to chance as some people may cash in on the statements of the labour union to cause trouble.”
A member of the community’s vigilante group, Mr. Chinedu Nwankwo, said: “Ngige is our brother and we cannot allow this to happen in our community.”
Calls placed to the Anambra State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Jerry Nnubia, for his reaction were unanswered.
At the NLC office in Awka, neither the chairman nor any other officer was around to speak on the issue.
