Gallant troops of the Operation Fansan Yamma
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), have thwarted a terrorist ambush in Zamfara State, rescued two abducted herders and recovered 520 livestock in separate operations in Sokoto State.
The operations, conducted on October 28, 2026, demonstrated the sustained offensive pressure by troops against terrorist groups operating across the North-West region.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, while conducting a fighting patrol to clear the Anka–Guruzu road following reports of terrorist activities, came under a coordinated ambush by terrorists positioned on both sides of the road.
Security sources said the troops responded with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce firefight and inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists.
The assailants subsequently withdrew from the area in disarray.m
Following the encounter, troops maintained their operational momentum, dominated the affected road and restored freedom of movement for commuters.
However, one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the firefight and was promptly evacuated for medical attention.
The soldier was reported to be in stable condition.
In a related operation, troops of Sector 2 successfully foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation was conducted on October 28 following credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities in the area.
Troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon the livestock and abducted victims.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 520 livestock and the rescue of two abducted herders.
The rescued victims were identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14. They were subsequently handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.
