Three persons on Sunday sustained several degrees of injury when a tanker laden with fuel lost control following break failure and crashed into a Lexus Jeep in motion before falling into a nearby valley at Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the injured were occupants of the Lexus Jeep the tanker rammed into while the third person was the tanker driver.
Men of the Anambra Fire Service were on hand early enough to ensure the spilled contents of the tanker did not burst into flames.
Speaking to journalists at the scene of the incident, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi, said that the head of the tanker detached from the container and fell into a deep valley beside Udoka Housing Estate.
He said the wounded had been rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) for treatment by FRSC rescue team.
He blamed the incident on over speeding saying that the vehicles involved were the petrol tanker and a Lexus jeep.
While warning motorists to apply caution on the highway in the interest of all road users, Kumapayi regretted the attitude of heavy duty truck drivers on the highway.
