Hope has risen for the return of lasting peace in Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
This followed the peaceful conduct of elections to elect leaders of the town union. It was gathered that about 249 people made up the delegate list for the election with 249 as eligible voters, while 210 persons were accredited to vote for the 23 candidates in the 16 vacant positions.
Addressing the electorate, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Chief Anthony Anyamene, appealed to them to conduct themselves in a manner that would not disrupt the election.
He said the town had been in the news for some time following some internal feud and political interest, adding that the town has resolved to toe the path of peace.
He charged them to be peaceful, promising that the election would be credible. In the keenly contest election, one of the aspirants for the post of the town’s union president, Engr. Ivans Okolo, scored 169 votes to beat Chief Edwin Ekweano and Emeka Chude, who came second and third with a total number of 34 and 33 votes.
Similarly, Evans Okafor scored 170 votes to beat his opponent, Mr. Emka Nwokoye, who secured 66 votes to clinch the position of the Provost Marshall. All other positions were however returned unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Okolo thanked Anambra State Government and the people of Obosi community for finding them worthy to serve.
He promised to as a matter of urgency wade into all wrangling in the community with a view to restoring lasting peace to the ancient kingdom, of Obosi Okolo said he would work closely with all factional groups with his executive to ensure that all grey areas are covered.
