A health activist, Asoro Abubakri Olatunji, has urged Nigerians to work on their immune systems as a way of preventing tuberculosis.

Olatunji said in a statement made available toNews Express: “The question that should come to mind is how TB has become the thorn in the flesh of humanity, cutting lives short, spreading like wild fire, tormenting and keeping our loved ones glued to their beds with little life on their neck.

“Its unholy alliance with the air has made it nearly impossible for any human being living to escape its cruel hand of friendship. Since a strong immune system is a nightmare to this disease, it is pertinent for both patients and non-patients to cultivate the habit of consumption of vegetables and fruits and every other immune system building food to build their guard against tuberculosis.”

Olatunji described tuberculosis as a negotiation between life and death.

“Since it was discovered by Robert Koch, a German physician and scientist, on March 24, 1882, the disease kills not less than 4,500 people every day and transmits through air,” he said.

Olatunji enjoined Nigerians to remember and pray for TB patients. “Let us care for them and let us educate someone about tuberculosis and other communicable diseases,” he pleaded.
