Late Uniport student Hilkmat Gbadamosi
A student of the University of Port Harcourt has reportedly committed suicide in Port Harcourt. The student identified as Hilkmat Gbadamosi of the Department of Chemical Engineering, 100 level, was alleged to be battling with a terminal illness before her death.
There are two versions to the circumstances that led to her death. One version had it that the deceased was depressed as a result of the pains emanating from the alleged illness and decided to end her life by consuming two bottles of poisonous substance suspected to be sniper.
Another version alleged that the deceased took her life because she was jilted by her boyfriend. Sources close to the deceased revealed that her classmates became worried when they did not see her in school on Monday and could not take part in class test just as calls made to her phone did not go through. The source disclosed that the caretaker of the deceased’s apartment became worried after knocking severally at her door without any response. He said that the caretaker climbed atop the ceiling of the apartment with a ladder and discovered the decomposing body of the deceased. He said that the incident was reported to the Police while the decomposing body of the deceased was evacuated to the morgue. When contact, the Public Relation Officer of University of Port Harcourt, Dr William Wodi, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident by the University’s Dean of Students Affairs and the Head of the University’s Security Department. Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, however, confirmed the story. (Daily Trust)
