Prof Nworgu Boniface
It was excitement and jubilation galore as Prof. Boniface Ginikanwa Nworgu, accompanied by friends, colleagues and relatives, donated 20 units of twin-pupil furniture to Community Central School, Alulu, Ngor-Okopala LGA, Imo State.
While presenting the furniture to the school authority, Prof. Nworgu, who passed through the school as a pupil, said the donation was made in support of Adopt-A-School Project, an initiative of the Nigerian Academy of Education under the leadership Prof. Elizabeth Ekeh.
Prof Nworgu, who hails from Alulu community, is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Science and Professor of Physics Education in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Also speaking at the event held last Friday, April 25, 2019, the representative of Nigerian Academy of Education, Prof. Patrick M. C Ogoamaka, commended Prof. Nworgu for remembering and giving back to his alma mater after decades of leaving the school.
He described Prof. Nworgu as an erudite scholar whose contributions to knowledge and humanity are immeasurable, adding that Adopt-A-School-Project, as conceived by the Nigerian Academy of Education, is meant to bridge the obvious deficit by providing critical educational materials to adopted schools.
Earlier in her welcome address, the headmistress of the school, Mrs Elekwachi Olivia (Née Ayozie), posited that Prof. Nworgu “has done what Napoleon could not do by providing seating infrastructure to us”.
She also called on other well-meaning sons and daughters of the community to emulate Prof. Nworgu by providing other needs of the school.
The event witnessed the presence of some dignitaries from and outside the community including Dr. K. O Nworgu of the Department of Mass Communication, Imo State University, Owerri, who is also a cousin to the donor, Mrs. Eunice Ekechukwu, the Education Secretary, Ngor-Okpala LGA, Imo State.
