Intelligence sharing between Owerri Unit and that of Anambra State has led to the rescue of a kidnap victim, Obinna Davidson.
The victim was said to have been abducted by gunmen suspected kidnappers in his red Lexus car model GS 300 with Reg No: EHM 32 EHRH on Friday at about 10:30 p.m.
A statement by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that through intelligence sharing, they were informed that the suspects were heading towards the commercial city of Onitsha with the victim.
The statement reads in part: “Following the distress call, patrol teams attached to Operation Udoka were alerted who later traced the hoodlums to a secluded flat located inside a bush around Oba area in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.
“Victim was rescued unhurt and his vehicle recovered. Hoodlums escaped through the rear fence into the bush.”
Mohammed said following subsequent search of the apartment, exhibits which include; two AK47 rifles with ten rounds of live ammunition, one Beretta pistol with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered.
He said that while the scene was cordoned off, efforts are being intensified to apprehend fleeing suspects in order to bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, the Command has arrested another suspect for stealing vehicles.
The PPRO said that “following intelligence report at about 2pm on Friday, police detectives arrested one Collins Ike ‘m’ at Limca road Nkpor in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.”
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a receiver of stolen vehicles adding that two Honda CRV vehicles with REG numbers AL 291 GRA black in colour and PR 226 AAA were recovered from the suspect including the one earlier reported stolen.
The PPRO said the case is under investigation even as effort is ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices in order to bring them to justice.
