National Assembly Complex
Upon the resumption of the National Assembly on Wednesday from its Yuletide break since December 20, 2018, both chambers, again, adjourned plenary.
This came on the heels of paying last respect to the country’s fallen heroes, a long-time legislative tradition for members.
Also, during the break, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibeju Lekki Federal constituency of Lagos, Abayomi Adeola, died after a brief illness.
Immediately after announcements were read, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Francis Alimikhena, moved that the plenary be suspended.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, accordingly approved the motion and proceedings were adjourned till the following day.
A similar process happened in the House of Representatives where Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, announced that Thursday would be a day of tribute for the late member and consequently hit the gavel to bring the day’s plenary to a close.
