Traffic gridlock
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two persons for allegedly robbing motorists during a traffic gridlock along Central School road, Umusiome, Nkpor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
One suspect, Sunday Eze, 22, an indigene of Adaba in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly arrested while others escaped.
Confirming the arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said an axe was recovered from the suspect.
He said: “Following a distress call at about 10pm on December 23 that some hoodlums were robbing motorists in a traffic gridlock at Central School Road Umusiome Nkpor in Idemili South LGA of the State, police detectives attached to Ogidi Division responded swiftly and arrested one Sunday Eze aged 22 years of Adaba village, Uzor-uwani LGA of Enugu State with one battle axe while others fled.”
According to the PPRO, a similar distress call at about 2 am at the same location on December 24, 2018, led to the arrest of 20-year old Gabriel Ogidi of Umusiome, Nkpor in Idemili Local Government Area of the state.
Weapons recovered from the suspect included one locally-made single barrel pistol with two live cartridges.
Mohammed assured residents of the area that security patrol is being intensified in the area even as he added that the case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
Also arrested is 31-year old Uchenna Okori of Ogbaku in Awgwu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The suspect was arrested at Afa Street Odume Layout, Obosi, with a stolen Toyota Corolla Car with registration number FGG 828 belonging to one Uchenna Obioha.
The vehicle he was caught with was reportedly stolen since November 2018.
